As a mom of 5, it’s hard to always get a shower in, much less have time to fix my hair in the morning. I make sure my skincare routine is on point, but there are days when a ponytail is as good as it’s gonna get.  It’s been a busy couple of months for us, so I thought I’d share with you one of my favorite ways to make my hair look nice without having to dedicate a great deal of time to it.

When I first started looking into hair care and ingredients in shampoos, I went to extreme measures to avoid  toxins in my hair products. So much so, that for about 6 months I went “poo free”. This involves using baking soda and apple cider vinegar as a shampoo and rinse  to clean your hair without removing it’s natural oils. It took awhile for my hair to adjust to not using the usual surfactants but even in the greasy period, I found I had less split ends and my hair became easier to manage.

I found a few new shampoos that weren’t as laden with toxins and began to reincorporate them into my hair care routine. I then found the Think Dirty app and realized they still weren’t as safe as I wanted for my family and went on the hunt again. Then I found NYR Organic and began using the Revitalizing Orange Flower Shampoo and Conditioner and fell in love!

IMG_0324I’ve found that my hair does best when I only wash it 2-3 times a week. I like to wear bangs to help frame my face (I have a HUGE forehead). My hair has always had a little bit of natural curl to it but has lessened after my pregnancies. Hormones are a funny thing!

Anyway, back to my bangs and the whole reason for this post. I blow dry them after washing my hair or they get a little out of hand.  For the rest of my hair which reaches to my mid back, I twist it into a bun, put a hair tie around it and leave it to dry overnight or during the day as I’m out running errands or working around the ranch. By the time it’s dry, I take out the bun and am left with fun bouncy curls that look like I spent hours on them! Here’s how it looks from start to finish. Let me know if you give it a try!
